The QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) (FREC 4) is a regulated, nationally recognised prehospital care qualification designed for those ready to take the next step in their career. 

Whether you’re aiming to work within the NHS, private ambulance services, or specialist emergency roles, this course prepares you for a future in prehospital care. This is also aimed at those who have a specific responsibility at work or in voluntary or community activities to provide prehospital care to patients requiring  emergency or urgent care treatment. 


Develop advanced clinical skills
Aligned with the PHEM skills framework (Descriptor Level E), this qualification equips you with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to manage a wide range of prehospital emergencies, including:

  • Major incidents
  • Fracture immobilisation
  • Paediatric emergencies
  • Mental health presentations
  • And more

Course structure

  • 5 days of classroom (39 hours)
  • Followed by three post course workbooks to consolidate your learning

 

WHAT THIS COURSE ENABLES YOU TO DO:

  • Obtain a career as an Emergency Care Assistant, event medical provider, healthcare assistant and supports specialist medical roles within the military, police and fire services. 
  • Progression to more advanced qualifications.

  • Progression to the FREUC 5 course (Ambulance Technician role)

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

You will learn new skills including

  • Immediate life support (Adult)
  • Assessment and treatment of trauma
  • Physiological observations
  • Assisting with clinical interventions
  • Immobilisation and extracation
  • ECG recognition

AM I ELIGIBLE?

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Hold a valid FREC 3 qualification
  • Provide 118 hours of contextualised learning hours completed since achieving the FREC 3, (a template log can be provided upon request)
